Ronald Louis Ferguson's Obituary
Ronald Louis Ferguson, 73, of Minden, Nevada, and Woodstock, Connecticut, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. He leaves behind a life defined by strength, humor, and steadfast love.
To know Ronald-whether as Ron, Ronnie, or Fergie-was to know true loyalty. He showed up, he listened, and he cared deeply about the people and projects he was involved with. He valued honesty, hard work, and his close relationships; those who loved him knew they could always count on him without question.
Ron was born on December 6, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, lowa, to Louis Ferguson and Betty
Schmidt, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his stepmother, Virginia Ferguson; his stepfather, Don Schmidt; his brothers, Gary (Karen) Ferguson and Greg (Sheila) Ferguson; his twin sisters, Linda and Lori Ferguson; and his stepsister, Lori Blessing.
Above all else, Ron cherished his family. He shared a deep and loving bond with his wife of 49 years, Judy Ferguson; they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this September 4th. He also leaves behind his son, Scott Ferguson, and his daughter, Leslie Decrona, along with her husband, Dayne.
Ron's greatest joy was his grandchildren—his "Amigos," Hayden and Declan Ferguson, and Isla and Owen Decrona. His love for them was evident through his steady presence, thoughtful actions, and the many sacrifices he made to be an active part of their lives.
Ron lived life on his own terms and was always looking for the next adventure. He retired from Evergreen Packaging in 2021 as a Technical Service Specialist. He loved riding his motorcycle and exploring America with Judy or riding with his brothers in the "Too Much Fun Club." He had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether he was offering support, sharing stories, bringing laughter, or pouring tiny shots of tequila. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew
him.
Knowing Ron's love for a good party, a Celebration of Life will be held in Nevada, lowa, and Connecticut at a later date. In the words of Ron, "Let's Go."
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
