A couple of things I remember about my uncle Steve. When I was very young, he and JaNae had the coolest green Ford Fairlane, and I got to ride with them at least part of the way home from a Zundel Bear Lake reunion. Also, after my dad passed away, uncle Steve took the time to come over to our house a few times to help us with some wiring and plumbing repairs which we really appreciated. I am sorry we are unable to attend the funeral and see aunt JaNae and my cousins.

May the memory of his life be eternal

Steve Shaffer is my father, my friend, my teacher.
While on this earth he taught me to work, to be responsible, to be honest, to love the Lord, my family, and my country. At work his motto might have been "Don't just stand there, do something - even if it is wrong". While not applicable to all situations, that pretty much sums up his philosophy of being anxiously engaged in good things.
When I was young it was tough to keep up with him on a hike, or beat him to the next good fishing hole on the river. Actually the beating him to a good fishing hole was tough even when we got older.
Together we built homes, fished, hunted, served in the Church and enjoyed watching my children in their activities.
I am grateful to my dad for all that he taught me, in word and example. I will miss him.
Keith -
I am saying an earthly good bye to a man that taught me to love nature and the outdoors over 50 years ago and have not forgotten and never will the time he took to take me with him - fishing/hunting - getting ready to go like catching night crawlers with a flashlight in the middle of the night - they were fast but Steve had the patience and love to show me how. How to shoot and handle a gun safely - he was a great teacher and have enjoyed those traditions with my own family and friends - in the back of my mind situations arise and I remember him and always will!!
