Wanda Rose (Hevener) Dickinson (89) passed away in Carson City, NV at Carson Tahoe Medical Center on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Wanda was born on February 20, 1934 in Kansas City, MO to Verla Thomas Hevener and Dorothy May Mandl.
Wanda was raised in Kansas City and graduated from Redemptorist Catholic High School. Wanda attended Avila College and graduated from St. Louis University with a BSN in Nursing. During a career of more than three decades Wanda served as an Operating Room Nurse in hospitals in Kansas City, MO, Portland, OR, and Carson City, NV. Wanda was one of the developers and instructors of the Surgical Technology Degree Program, along with her dear friend Dorothy Moore, at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon during the 1970’s-90’s and was an active member of AORN and AORT where she served as a conference presenter. Wanda also served on accreditation panels for Surgical Tech programs across America.
Wanda enjoyed traveling and after retiring from teaching in Oregon, she moved to Minden, NV in January 2000 to fulfil a retirement dream that she and her husband had of living in the desert Southwest. Wanda loved Minden, Gardnerville, and all of the Carson Valley. She served for many years in the early 2000’s as a real estate agent in those areas with her dear friend Judy Vanover. Wanda was a believer in Jesus and lived out her faith as member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Carson City, NV where she worshipped and served as a volunteer.
Wanda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Peter Dickinson. Wanda is survived by her son Matthew Guild (wife Karen, and daughters Kathryn Rose and Maria Caroline) of Charlotte, NC; her stepson Robert Bruce Dickinson of Lake Oswego, OR (daughter Kaitlin Rose); her brothers Robert Hevener and Thomas Hevener (wife Diane) both of Olathe, KS; her longtime companion Brett Anderson of Minden, NV; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Eastside Memorial Park, 1600 Buckeye Rd. Minden, NV 89423. A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3597 N Sunridge Dr. Carson City, NV 89705.
