Jeffrey David Lautrup's Obituary
Jeff Lautrup (Loppy) will always be remembered as the guy ripping across the desert on his side-by-side. He had a gift for appreciating even the small things in the desert and knew it like the back of his hand. Jeff passed peacefully, with family by his side, on April 22, 2026 in Minden, Nevada.
Jeffrey David Lautrup grew up in the Southern California surfside town of San Juan Capistrano, then moved to Santa Rosa, California just before high school. He went to St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California where he was a DJ for the SMC radio station and played drums in a band. He had lots of fun, but still managed to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990.
Jeff was a master SCUBA instructor and a real estate appraiser, then landed on a career as an insurance adjuster, working as a Construction Defect Specialist.
Jeff’s passion for side-by-sides was a natural progression. He grew up riding dirt bikes, water skiing, snow skiing, fishing, playing soccer, and enjoying all things outdoors. He loved using, breaking, fixing, and modifying anything with wheels or an engine from electric bikes and scooters, to motorcycles, boats, drones, RC planes, and especially his side-by-sides. There was a curiosity and know how that he inherited from his dad and his grandfather.
Jeff was most proud of his two amazing children. He loved coaching their sports teams, cheering them on, and ensured that they, too, enjoyed camping trips and great days boating at the lake. He is survived by his children, Rylee (Steven Divine) and Colby Lautrup, his parents David and Pat Lautrup, and his sister Kim Machek and her family Howard, Megan (Alex Creighton), and Zac Machek. He will also be greatly missed by his aunts, uncles, many cousins, and friends.
Join us for Jeff’s final ride and celebration of life on June 20th.
For those who wish to join on the ride, we will meet at the Lautrup house at 8:30am and proceed to the perfect spot in the desert at 9:00am where his ashes will find a final resting place. Please contact Kim if you would like to join in the ride so that we can make sure there are plenty of vehicles.
Whether you are able to make the ride or not, please join the family for lunch and an opportunity to share fun stories at noon at the Lautrup house.
