Joseph "Joey" Lyons' Obituary
Joseph “Joey” Thomas Lyons II, 67, passed away on April 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and stories that will continue to be shared for years to come.
Born in Santa Monica, California, to the late Joseph and Joan Lyons, Joey grew up in Canoga Park and proudly attended the University of Southern California, where he was a proud member of the USC Men’s Crew team. A lifelong Trojan, and loyal Raiders fan whose optimism somehow survived decades of football frustrations, Joey embraced life with enthusiasm, kindness, and a great sense of humor. A natural extrovert, he never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel like a friend.
Joey’s greatest love story began in Huntington Beach, California, when he met Judy McMullen, a Wisconsin-born Packers fan. Despite her allegiance to the green and gold, Joey knew a good thing when he saw it. They married in 1989, welcomed daughters Sage and Tia, and spent 37 years building a life together where family came first, laughter was plentiful, and the door was always open.
After many years of running his own roofing and waterproofing consulting business, Joey brought his expertise to Allana Buick & Bers, Inc., where he continued to excel in construction forensics. Outside of work, he enjoyed simple travel—campsites, beaches, countless soccer tournaments with his girls, family visits, and the Sierra Nevadas—and was always recharged by the outdoors. Living in Nevada only fueled his fascination with lost mines, buried treasures, and the history hidden in the mountains. He was a true explorer.
Although Joey cherished being a husband and father, his favorite role was “Papa Joe.” His grandchildren, Ryder and Finley, were a constant source of joy and brought him immeasurable happiness.
Joey is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Lyons; his daughters, Sage (Patrick) Williams and Tia Lyons; his grandchildren, Ryder and Finley Williams; his sisters, Debbie (Jerry) Friedrich and Janis (Hap) Carpenter, and his many nephews and nieces.
In true Joey fashion, he would want to be remembered through a good story, a shared laugh, and perhaps one last dad joke. Please join us as we celebrate Joey’s life on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Valhalla Tahoe, 1 Valhalla Road, South Lake Tahoe. The parking lot gate will open at 2:00 p.m. The Boathouse Theatre will open at 2:15 p.m., where guests are invited to gather and view a commemorative slideshow prior to the service. The slideshow will also remain available for viewing following the celebration. The formal Celebration of Life will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. in the Grand Hall. Families are warmly welcome.

May your heart always be joyful; may your song always be sung.
May you stay forever young.”
